A resident of Cerritos for 32 years, Sophia Tse was first elected to the ABC School Board in 2007 and is currently serving a third term. She completed her first year as president of APISBMA. Sophia Tse is a community college professor and received her Master’s Degree in Nursing and has been employed as a Clinic Nurse Specialist and a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. Sophia was actively involved as PTSA board member in her 3 children’s schools, Carmenita MS and Whitney HS and she was a chairperson on the Whitney HS Chinese PTSA. Community involvement is important to her and she volunteers with the following organizations: Chair for the Distinguished Young Women program, Chairwoman of the Southern California Chinese Culture Association as well as coach, team mom, first aid provider for City of Cerritos soccer team, March of Dimes Program for Premature Infants, and has been a community instructor for basic life support and parenting classes. She is also a member of Cerritos Woman's Club and Optimist Club. Sophia is liaison to the ABC School of Choice program, the ABC Ad Hoc Board Advisory Committee. She believes that educational instruction should develop all aspects of the student, including their physical, intellectual, social, and psychological well-being, in order to create a well-rounded citizen. She strongly encourages students’ educational success through both mentoring and strong parental involvement and participation.
