Van Le is small business owner and a community leader in San Jose and came as first wave of refugees without one word of English from the fall of Saigon on April 30, 1975. Due to a lack of foundation in English, she struggled and dropped out of college to support her family but kept her hope and dream to finally achieved her Bachelor degree in Business 20 years later. She received numerous commendation, certificates of appreciation and became a successful businesswoman. Many community members have encouraged her to run for school board seat due to her passion and involvement in the community and especially for younger generation through the Moon festival which she was founder and organizer for over 25 years. She was recently re-elected for her third term of Eastside High School District. She championed the McKinney-Vento (Homeless Assistant) event by starting with fundraiser to provide books, clothing, dinner, medical check-up and gift cards to students and their families and this year is 7 years. She also brought Asian American heritage festival through essay, art and media contest.
