Born in Vietnam, Thuy DaoJensen became a war refugee at four years old. She grew up in Hawaii, New Jersey, and Santa Clara, California. She has an undergraduate degree from UC Santa Cruz, a master's in Elementary Education and a doctorate in Curriculum & Cultural Studies from Arizona State University. While living in Indiana, she was an education professor, developing and teaching a required course in Teacher Education called Diversity and Equity in Education.

In 2015, she moved back to northern California and volunteered as a PTA Treasurer. She was a charter member and current Treasurer of Marsh Creek Democratic Club (2018). She is also a charter member of the Rotary Club of Oakley (2019), and later served as Rotary Club president (2022-2023).

In 2020, Thuy won two elections: as a District Delegate to the Democratic Party of Contra Costa County and as Board Trustee in Brentwood Union School District. She has served on CSBA's Delegate Assembly (2021-now) and volunteers in helping to endorse and elect Democratic candidates in Contra Costa County. She lives in Brentwood with her husband, has a son in college and a daughter in high school.
