Gino Kwok, Esq. is a 2-Time President and Board Member for the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District (HLPUSD) from 2011-20. Mr. Kwok is the only former HLUSD School Board Member ever re-elected after being off the Board (which in his case was due to a decision by LA County to move from at-large to area voting sequencing), and is currently the only API on the HLPUSD Board (2022).
Mr. Kwok was also the first and only HLPUSD Board Member ever elected to the CSBA Board of Directors as the API Director-At-Large (2018-20) and the CIF Board of Directors. His chief accomplishment while on the CSBA Board was to oppose and eventually lead the effort to defeat CSBA’s attempt to eliminate the API Director-At-Large position as well as every other ethnic DAL (African-American, Hispanic, and Native American). Among the initiatives that he championed while with CIF was the expansion of CIF participation for historically underrepresented ethnic and gender groups.
Mr. Kwok previously served on the APISBMA Board (2018-20) and authored multiple articles on the important issues that API kids face in public education which were published by CSBA. He has donated over 1,000 musical instruments and over 200 scholarships to HLPUSD, including to every High School, every High School Band and every Middle School.
Mr. Kwok is a trial attorney having practiced for over 25 years. He has worked for an institutional New York law firm (Rogers & Wells) and an institutional Los Angeles law firm (Sheppard Mullin). He was a law clerk for the Chief Judge in the US District Court in Los Angeles. He is a proud graduate of HLPUSD and lives with his wife and teenage daughter in Hacienda Heights, CA. for CSBA
